Dealing With War Fallout
"America at War." That is what has been declared by the news. With protests popping up in one place after another, people's attitude is of wanting peace not war. There is a sense of danger and threats, especially from Terrorist. What does all this do to the moral of people? How are people coping in an emotional and mental way?
There is no war that is pleasant or that doesn't have side effects. The fallout could mean the difference between sanity and insanity. Some of the trauma that people have faced in previous wars included:
· relationship issues
· increase drug use
· increase in smoking
· increase or return to alcohol
Sometimes ailments could include shell shock, a feeling of non-responsiveness, or lethargy, in actions. They could also suffer from violent dreams and reoccurrence of the fighting and killing. They lack trust in people, and develop a hatred for most of mankind.
One sad fact is they don't often know what they do or why they do it. They just react to what is in their subconscious mind. People think that only those who are on the front lines are the ones who suffer from the war. But this is not true. Don't forget, people have hearts and brains. They have feelings and emotions just like the soldiers. Actually, past case studies have proven that spouses of the soldiers suffer more than the war veteran. Even the casual observer can suffer from emotional trauma if the event or situation has a strong enough hold and influence on the person's mind.
However, this does not have to be the case. If people knew how the brain worked, it would help them understand the function of the brain, and it what they need to do to make sure the brain stays healthy.
The brain is the headquarters of the central nervous system. More than 10 billion cells transmit messages to and from all parts of the body. The brain controls every thought and most movement. Although it makes up only two percent of your body weight, it consumes twenty percent of the energy produced.
Containing about a trillion neurons, the human brain is the most complex mechanism known, and its many functions continue to be both a source of amazement and a focus of much research. Since the brain has the ability to absorb everything it receives, it would be most appropriate to feed it the proper balance of impulses and stimulus that would allow it to release, in appropriate measures, the output that would be most beneficial.
This constant occurrence of stimulus could be in the form of affirmations and positive feedback that will stimulate the brain's thinking and cognitive side to produce the expected results. As stated in computer lingo, "garbage in, garbage out." In this case, "good goes in and good comes out."
The best and most appropriate way to feed the brain positive information is by meditation. Once meditation is approached and acted upon, the outlook and attitudes of people can change drastically. Believe it or not, by altering the mind's reception of information, or feedback, a person can literally go from being a psycho path, to being an honest, upright, decent human being.
How does one take the steps to make these dramatic changes? There is an exercise that can be performed by anyone and it only requires a few minutes to complete. I taught this exercise to students, employees, employers, etc. with dramatic results.
Just do the following:
* Take a few deep breaths
* Relax the body until it is almost limp
* Clear the mind completely
Now vision a blue-framed mirror standing in front of you. Inside that mirror, picture yourself with the worst problem or situation you want. If you are trying to get rid of a bad habit, picture that bad habit as a beast next to you. If it is a lack of money, picture an empty bank account. If you have negative emotions or mental problems you don't want to deal with, picture these as creatures you can't stand, whether they be insects, or animals.
Now, take a sledgehammer and break that mirror to pieces. Picture your right hand grabbing the frame and moving the mirror to your right. That will represent your past.
Now picture a large white-framed mirror in front of you. In this mirror you will picture yourself with whatever you want to accomplish in life. If you want more money, picture your wallet full of $100 dollar bills, or look at your bank statement and see the balance read $1,569,256 or what figure you want it to be.
If you have a bad habit and want to replace it with a good habit, picture your good habit as a beautiful woman standing next to you (for you ladies, a handsome man), or whatever image you want it to portray. If you want to be happy and joyful, picture being in a paradise with your loved one next to you. Then, take the image and move it to your left. That will be your immediate future.
Do this everyday for 15 minutes and before long your brain will put out the energy force that you keep feeding it and will produce effects in many ways deemed impossible.
Scientist have used brainwaves to move objects. They even hooked a brain to a train and had the train moving. Think of the enormous power the brain has and use it wisely. In order to use it wisely and get the most out of it, you have to feed it correctly. Do this right and you will benefit for years to come.
